Academic Focus

• Teacher credentials— Teachers at ALCS are required to have a Bachelor’s Degree and NJ State Teachers Certificate. Some of the staff also have ACSI certification. The staff are involved in ongoing training at ACSI conventions and in-house training classes. Most important, however, is that each teacher is growing in their walk with the Lord so that the Spirit can lead in ministry.

• Curriculum —At ALCS we utilize the following curriculums: ACE, BJU, McGraw Hill, Saxon Harcourt Achieve and ACSI. Subjects taught at ALCS include Bible, reading (phonics-based), writing, spelling/vocabulary, literature, mathematics, science, social studies, computers, Spanish, music, art, PE/Health, and electives.

• Standardized Testing—TerraNova3 testing is given to students in grades K-12 in the spring.

• Special education services—ALCS is committed to increasing its’ resources to meet the needs of exceptional learners in future years. Compensatory instruction, speech therapy, supplemental instruction, and a child study evaluation are available. These services are granted through the Essex Regional Educational Services Commission. Certified instructors from ERESC will be on the school premises to conduct these individualized programs if necessary.

Extra-Curricular Activities

• Athletics – The athletic program at ALCS  is designed to enrich the spiritual, mental, physical and emotional well being of all athletes by a providing competitive environment that develops lifelong habits and values such as sportsmanship, perseverance, integrity, self-discipline, commitment and teamwork. High School sports include: Soccer, Basketball, Baseball and Softball.

• Music – Private music lessons are available for Piano, Voice, Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Drums, Guitar, Violin, Theory & Composition . Our children perform in a yearly gala for the parents showcasing all they have learned.

• Dance – Private Dance lesson are offered after school including Ballet, Tap & Jazz.

Parental Focus

• ALCS communication—We believe a variety of tools, including weekly classroom reports via the Headmaster parent portal, website and internet communications, report cards, parent-teacher conferences, direct teacher access email and voicemail, will be used to help keep parents well informed.

• Parental Involvement- All parents are encouraged to participate as a volunteer at ALCS. Lunch room volunteers, school trip chaperones and assistance in the classroom if requested by a teacher are ways to participate in your child’s school experience. Each parent is expected to be actively involved in participating and promoting all fundraisers held by the school.

• School Discipline– violations of specific school or classroom rules or disregard for common courtesy are unacceptable and will be dealt with through correction and or/discipline. In all cases, discipline will be administered in love with the aim of improving conduct. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE will any ALCS employee administer corporal punishment. If a student misbehaves in the classroom, the teacher will handle the matter unless it is severe.

• Multiple instances of misbehavior and severe cases will be handled by the Principal and/or pastoral staff. Parents will be notified by the principal of any severe misbehavior and the accompanying punishment. In extreme cases, the principal may suspend a student from school.
